Sun City West is a fairly new community. In fact construction of Sun City West was just completed in 1997. Although new, the community has matured into a lush oasis in the Arizona desert. It consists of four recreational complexes, seven golf courses, plenty of convenient local businesses, churches and nationally ranked hospital are all in place and that's just currently, there is much more planned for the future.
Like there neighbor, Sun City, this community is an age restricted community that was developed by Del E. Webb. Both of the Sun City’s are unincorporated and use resources from Maricopa County such as fire, water, police, and trash services.
Homes in Sun City West offer plenty of options. It is an adult planned community which means that one member of the household must be at least 55 years old and no one under 19 may reside within the city limits. Housing ranges from single family dwellings to duplexes, casitas, and garden apartments.
There are four community centers that offer tons of recreational opportunities. Depending on the center you attend you will find a walking track, softball field, fitness center, clubrooms, miniature golf, horseshoes, green house, a theatre, woodworking shop, and even a ballroom.
You’ll find it a friendly community, filled with people from every state in the nation, as well as Canada and other countries. Most visited other developments but found that Sun City West offered variety and value found nowhere else.
Other recreational opportunities include the Pioneer Arizona Living History Museum and the Black Canyon Shooting Range. Both are located in the area. The land surrounding Sun City West is known as gold country and offers many ghost towns and remote locations that are just awaiting exploration throughout the Bradshaw Mountains.
