Show Low Arizona Information & History

Astride the legendary Mogollon Rim and tucked along the edge of the world's largest stand of Ponderosa pine, Show Low offers us the purest form of Mother Nature's beauty. Show Low was originally named by the turn of a card and the name has remained all these years. Show Low is part of an area known simply as the White Mountains. Show Low is considered to be the commercial hub of the White Mountains with many recreational amenities.

In Show Low you will find 48 area lakes for fishing and over forty campgrounds and RV parks. The Fool Hollow State Recreation Park is also located in the area. Group campgrounds, trails, an amphitheater, playgrounds and picnic areas are all available.

Fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts will also enjoy Show Low Lake. The lake is located just south of Show Low with camp sites, bathrooms including showers. A store and playgrounds are also on sight. The Show Low Aquatic Center, and indoor water theme park and pool are open year round and a great source of entertainment and relaxation.

The area is excellent for hiking trails and horseback riding. Bus tours are available to tour the White Mountains. Fine and causal dining is available in many parts of the area. Whatever your pleasure, Show Low has all the conveniences, yet still retains an aura of the "Old West". A card game is still used to decide the winner of a tied election.

The city has a new indoor aquatic center and five golf courses within 20 miles. Boating and fishing are popular in the many lakes and streams in the area, including Rainbow Lake, Show Low Lake, White Mountain Lake and Fools Hollow Lake Recreation Area. Snow skiing is available at Sunrise Park Resort on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation.

Tourism and recreation are the foundation of the economy of Show Low. Due to its size and location, the community serves as a regional trade and services center for southern Navajo County and portions of southern Apache County. It is also an entry point for visitors to the White Mountain recreation areas. Wholesale concerns include lumber companies, concrete plants, and bottled gas firms. Navajo County business offices and regional headquarters and Navapache Regional Medical Center, a regional trauma hospital, are maintained in Show Low.
