Scottsdale Arizona Information & History

Since the founding of Scottsdale in 1888 the area has proved to be one of the most diverse you will find. The area was once home to cattle ranches and citrus farms and it slowly grew into a young business metropolis that was home to retirees, up and coming students and business men, and financially stable families.

The Town of Scottsdale was incorporated as a city in 1951 and Malcolm White was elected as the town’s first mayor. At the time of incorporation, Scottsdale consisted of one square mile and had a population of 2,000. Today Scottsdale reports a population of over 215,000 people, which makes it the 5 th most populated city in Arizona.

The city offers resort style living that includes many planned developments to choose from, many of the developments feature golf courses, and state of the art recreational complexes. Many of these complexes offer shopping centers and other amenities within walking distance.

The McCormick Ranch is no longer used for cattle ranching. The area that was once owned by wealthy settlers is now a residential setting for residents of Scottsdale. Today the neighborhood offers residential homes, condos, town homes, or regular single family living options.

Scottsdale is easily accessible via Phoenix Sky Harbor International and Scottsdale Municipal airports. Serviced by 18 major airlines, Sky Harbor International has around 1,200 flights arriving and departing daily.

Scottsdale is able to brag about their title of “Most livable city”. The reason they have one this title could be in part to their historic old west charm with the amenities and customs involved in resort living. Scottsdale is popular enough to gather at least four million visitors annually.

The area is filled with art and history museums, art galleries, other cultural attractions, exclusive posh shopping centers, and many popular restaurants. This is actually just the beginning of all Scottsdale has to offer. In the Scottsdale area there are more than 500 restaurants, 150 golf courses, 120 art galleries, and 63 hotels. For more information on attractions and living in Scottsdale please feel free to check the community pages where you will find a full range of lodging options, attractions, churches, and more.
