Peoria Arizona Information & History

Peoria was founded in agricultural activity that was originally a small rural community. Today Peoria is still strong in agriculture but has become a vibrant suburban activity. Peoria is one of the communities in the West Valley that is known for record breaking growth. Due to the expansions that have occurred in population, Peoria has made an effort to strengthen the economic base and make the area friendly to a host of new and existing businesses.

The main employers in Peoria are rooted in commercial and service jobs. Many of the area residents commute to nearby cities for work at the many large corporations that litter the area. Excellent transportation and freeways allow access to work, education, and a host of other needs and recreations that help to enhance the desirability of living in Peoria.

Peoria offers an abundance of affordable housing in different styles and prices ranges. The somewhat rural community and the beauty that surrounds the area of open fields continue to attract many residents to the area.

Peoria is lucky to be located near the picturesque and panoramic Lake Pleasant and White Tank Mountain regional parks. Lake Pleasant is a 10,000 acre lake that is a prime spot for boating and fishing. Other amenities in Peoria include numerous golf courses, community centers, a public swimming pool, parks, and sporting facilities. The Peoria sports complex is a huge and beautiful facility that is home to both the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres during spring training.

Peoria represents and recognizes community spirit with a host of fun and exciting events throughout the year. In April, Peoria hosts Pioneer Days. The event is a marvelous celebration for the whole area and boasts such events as sporting events, car shows, cowboy poetry, and various forms of live entertainment.
