The Village of Cross Keys is having movies playing each Saturday in June with the theme this year of Academy Awards winners!

June 4 is Shakespeare in Love, June 11 — The Blind Side, June 18- The King’s Speech, and June 25 – Slumdog Millionaire.

The movies will be shown in the Village Square. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, site back, relax, and enjoy Cross Keys MovieFest!

Tough mortgage criteria must remain says thinktank

Banks should keep their tough mortgage lending criteria in place to help prevent another house price bubble building up in the future, a thinktank said today.

Mortgages should be capped at 90% of a property’s value, while people should also be prevented from borrowing more than 3.5 times their income, according to the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).

The group said the UK had had four housing bubbles in the past 40 years, with these causing widespread damage to the economy.

It blamed the most recent house price boom, which saw property values treble between 1996 and 2006, on loose mortgage lending, pointing out that before the credit crunch the UK had the highest average loan-to-value ratio out of all OECD countries, apart from the Netherlands.

A useful trick to track mortgage interest rates

It is not widely known among the public, but mortgage interest rates tend to track to the yield on the 10-year treasury note. When the yield on the 10-year T-Note goes up mortgage interest rates tend to go up, and vice versa. So if you are wondering about mortgage interest rate trends a quick and easy way to gauge things is to look at the trends on the 10-year treasury notes. See here for an example of the last three months of that 10-year T-Note. Mortgage interest rates on 30 year fixed loans tend to be between 1.5% and 2.25% higher than the yield on this 10-year note. (Although that can vary depending on other market factors).
