Inexpensive ways to make your Home Shine

When it has come time to sell your home you want to make sure that it is the nicest looking home that you can make it. There are many low cost things that you can do to make your home beautiful. These things could be as simple as having a fresh cut lawn before a showing or something more complicated like complete landscaping.

It is best when you are considering ways to beautify your home that you use your imagination. Being creative will add an appeal to your home that may have been lacking before. You want it to stand out and “wow” the potential buyers as much as it once “wowed” you.

The following ideas are all low cost and they are truly just the beginning. If any of these do not strike you as possible, there are many other things that you could do. You know your home better than anyone so it is safe to say that with a little thought you would be the first to think of improvements and where they most need to be made.

The following is just a guideline and a possible way to expand on the beauty of your home in a way that will help to sell it faster. If you have any questions I am always available and will do my best to help you succeed wherever I can!

Landscaping

Trim the bushes that are located directly in front of your home. You want to make sure that the bushes are not blocking any windows or constricting the view from the street. For safety reasons it is always best if you have a clear view of at least your doors. As for windows, covering them up will rid you of natural light. Keeping the sun out can be a personal preference but it is best to make sure you leave it up to the future owners.

Consider planting some flowers around the walkway up to your porch. This is fairly inexpensive and will add plenty of color to an already beautifully landscaped yard. Another option is to add hanging plants and flowers around your deck or porch. Not only will this add an amazing scent that will waft through your windows but you will also have an added focal point to the outside of the house.

Another great place for flowers is hanging inside the house near windows. If you only want to have a couple, but still want the effect to be present, you will want to choose the windows you will walk by the most.

Obviously you will want your grass to be freshly mowed and as green as possible. There is something about the smell and look of fresh green grass that most people can appreciate. When you are mowing you will want to make sure that you go around all the edges and trees. Make sure that everything is mowed and you have raked any leaves or shoveled any snow (depending on season) that will make the lawn appear to be messy or that will cause problems getting around the outside areas of the home to the doors.

The complete package of your home is what will draw a buyer in. You need to be sure that you can show them the beauty and worth of your home as they are driving up to the house, even before they have stepped inside!

Other Outdoor Ideas

Consider either shining your door knobs or getting new ones. Depending on the look and feel of your home you may want to even consider a brass door knocker for an added touch!

Have a fresh welcome mat out waiting for the potential buyers when they arrive. A nice welcome mat will give you a homey appearance and that can never hurt. There are many inexpensive mats available everything from plain ole “Welcome” to “Home is where the heart is” and no matter which you choose they all have the same wonderful effect.

Put a fresh coat on your driveway. There is nothing more unattractive than cracks and faded concrete or tar on a driveway. It not only makes your drive bumpier but it makes the whole house look a little bit older than it could look.

Keep anything out of sight that doesn’t need to be in sight. Any gardening tools, kid’s toys, the lawnmower, just anything that doesn’t need to be out. You want to give a tidy appearance. Let them focus on the flowers and fresh cut grass and leave everything else out of their mind.

Consider getting a new mail box. This is an especially good plan if your current mailbox is older or has taken a beating in recent years. Buy something nice that gives an added touch to the feel of your home and have your home’s numbers proudly painted on the side.

Make sure that your gutters are clean. If you have your whole yard presentation ready and dirty gutters that will be the first thing to stand out and stand out it will. It will stand out more than you could ever imagine wanting it too.

Get your outside lighting up to par! This could be as simple as changing all the light bulbs or as in depth as adding new solar lights around the walk ways. This is really up to you. The majority of options here are fairly inexpensive and most works out quite nicely.

Be festive! If it is a holiday decorate. Add a festive wreath and some decorations to show your holiday spirit. In fact a nice wreath on your door at any time of year is sure to end up looking beautiful!

The numbers on your house need to shine! One sure fire way to make this happen is to clean them and polish them real good! Depending on their age, this may not work as well as you want it to however and you may want to consider buying some new numbers as this is about as inexpensive as it gets, and well worth the few dollars you will end up spending.

Indoor Options

There are many things you will be able to do to the inside of your home that will not only look good but it will benefit you once you move, as many of these things you will take with you.

You want to create the perfect homey type feel. You want your home to look lived in but comfortable. There are many ways to make this possible. Some things you could consider are:

Add some new pillows to your couch. Find a matching shade and run with it. Buy something nice and get various shapes and sizes for texture differences. Buy some square, rectangle, and round pillows. Stick with the same color or ones that match the couch and buy them in different fabrics so that they appear different.

Make sure that the home is completely picked up. You want the pets and any associated smell long gone when the buyers arrive. The same goes with any mess. Keep your children aware that now is not the time for the G.I.Joe to be lying on the steps, for the skates to be blocking the hallway, or for the Easy Bake Oven to be tossed on the dining room table. Now is the time for order. Although I can understand how hard that can be with kids around, so if you need to you can always plan the cleanliness around your showings.

Another trick to help achieve that homey feel involves lighting. The proper lighting will help the home immensely. One recommendation I can make is that you get incandescent light bulbs as this will create just the feel that you are looking for.

When it comes time for the showing burn some potpourri and some scented candles. Everyone seems to love the look and feel of burning candles and the extra scents will not hurt. You are sure to find at least one scent that you like. Today you will find many original and interesting scents in your candle section. Try to get some things that give people “feel good” vibes. Some ideas could be:

-Warm Apple Pie
-Sugar Cookies
-Anything Fruit Scented
-Banana Bread
-Pumpkin Pie

The list goes on and on, but those are certainly some good choices.

You should also consider changing any heavy drapes you have for a more sheer style curtain. The visitors you have will love the feel of the sunshine coming in on them and the beauty of the natural light that will flood your home in simple, comforting rays.

One last idea is to make your kitchen a masterpiece. This is one of the major rooms of your home. You definitely want to make sure this room is clean and more than presentable. Once everything is ready to go, one last kitchen idea is for you to consider a centerpiece for your table. You could go with flowers and candles or even a nice fruit masterpiece. Whatever you choose you will be surprised how something so simple will bring out the beauty in your home.

Good luck and I sincerely hoped this helps! If you need anymore help I am always available for no obligation consultations. Unlike most of those in my business, my happiest moments come from making your dreams come true!
