Fountain Hills Arizona History & Information

If you have the book, The 50 most desirable places to live in the United States, chances are you know Fountain Hills. The city of Fountain Hills can be recognized in the book and is well deserving of its spot.

Before Fountain Hills ever became a town it was part of one of the largest cattle and land areas that Arizona had to offer. The community is also know for having the world’s tallest man made fountain that continuously runs, which is quite possibly how the community got their name.

The town of Fountain Hills began as a master planned community that was meant for retirees. Fountain Hills was established in 1970 and eventually incorporated in 1989. The current census reports that the area of Fountain Hills has approximately 20,235 residents.

Even though Fountain Hills was founded to be a retiree village as the development matured it became more family oriented due to the scenic views, small town nature of the residents, and the quiet setting.

Fountain Hills offers a sense of community in a diverse setting. You will find retirees, professionals, and families all blending and working as one to build a better community. Proud of the residential status that is based on the city’s beginning, Fountain Hills keeps a close watch on the growth of commercial activity in the city.

Small businesses, government, and manufacturing offer the majority of the area employment. People move to Fountain Hills due to the reputation that Fountain Hills has a scenic wonderland. The Fountain Hills area may also be popular thanks to the fact that it is surrounded by lakes that include prime spots for swimming, water skiing, and boating.

Fountain Hills is close to neighboring Scottsdale but for those looking to stay in their own city, you will find much to boast about that will keep you home. Fountain Hills offers a new community center, historic museum, a playground for the children, many golf and sporting opportunities, and even their own school district.

Fountain Hills is well known for the many colorful celebrations throughout the year. The Fountain Hills Great Fair and Balloon Race is held in February, the Fourth of July celebration is a hit every year, the Arts and Crafts festival happens in the fall, and Fountain Hills is home to the only Thanksgiving Parade in Arizona.
